Heera Pudding Rice is best known for classic rice pudding, made by simmering the grains slowly in milk until soft and creamy. This is a short-grain pudding rice, sold in a 2kg bag, suited to gentle, low-heat cooking that brings out its naturally starchy texture. In the kitchen, it works well for both stovetop and oven-baked rice pudding, giving a thick, creamy result once cooked through. The rounded grains hold their shape while releasing starch, which helps the pudding thicken naturally without needing extra binding ingredients. It can be flavoured simply with sugar and a touch of vanilla, or left plain for a traditional milk pudding. For best results, rinse the rice lightly before cooking to remove loose starch, then simmer on a low heat so the grains cook evenly. Stir occasionally to stop it catching on the base of the pan. Once cooked, rice pudding will keep in the fridge for a few days in a sealed container, ready to reheat gently on the hob or in the microwave. Store the uncooked rice in a cool, dry cupboard, ideally in an airtight container once opened, to keep the grains in good condition for future puddings.
